White and Green Professional Nature Sustainability

Dear Friends and Supporters,
Welcome to the latest edition of the Saguna Rural Foundation (SRF) newsletter! As busy as bees, our team has been buzzing with a wide range of activities aimed at making a positive impact in the rural communities we serve. We're excited to share our recent endeavors and achievements with you.

Landslide Prevention and Bioengineering: Restoring Nature's Balance

In response to the devastating landslides that struck the Irshalwadi, Matheran forest range, we embarked on a mission to prevent further damage. Our dedicated team has undertaken the challenge of bioengineering, focusing on preventing erosion and promoting plant growth. Through multiple visits to the affected areas, we have diligently planted Wild date palm, Cliff banana, and Vetiver grass, working towards a more resilient and sustainable landscape.

Mitigating Landslide Risks: Extending Our Efforts to Matheran Hill

Recognizing the vulnerability of Matheran Hill to landslides, we've expanded our bioengineering efforts to this region as well. Despite the challenges of complex propagation techniques and limited planting windows, we've made significant progress in planting vetiver grass and cliff banana. We remain committed to our belief in the effectiveness of bioengineering and are excited to witness the positive impact over the coming years.

Empowering Tribal Farmers: Handholding and Sustainable Agriculture

In Surgana taluka of Nashik district, we've established a strong bond with the tribal communities. Our Saguna Regenerative Technique (SRT) initiative has gained momentum, especially in rice & millet production. Over 40 tribal farmers have embraced Vetiver Live Contour Bunding (LCB), contributing to soil conservation and sustainable agriculture practices. A dedicated vetiver nursery has also been established to further support this effort.

Advancing Agriculture: Exploring Innovative Techniques

Our team's commitment to innovative agriculture practices continues with the irradiation breeding technique. This method has been instrumental in developing improved varieties of Ragi millet and rice cultivars. Additionally, we've uncovered a surprising benefit - the potential use of Job's tears weed to enhance soil fertility while minimizing synthetic fertilizer usage.

Sharing Knowledge: Spreading the Success of SRT

As more farmers experience the transformative impact of SRT, our team is thrilled to witness the positive outcomes. We're actively engaged in sharing knowledge through unique handholding methodologies, enabling successful farmers to mentor and inspire newcomers. The reach of SRT is expanding, with farmers from Bihar, MP, Gujarat, Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu embracing its principles.

At Saguna Rural Foundation, we're dedicated to creating lasting change through sustainable practices and community empowerment. Our journey is fueled by passion, innovation, and a strong commitment to a brighter, greener future.

Thank you for your continued support and belief in our mission.

Warm regards,
Krishi Ratna Krushi Bhushan,
